Spanish Spice Workshop

Eclipse’s Spanish Spice offers a programme centring on 17th century Spanish dance music.  The members of the ensemble play on a variety of rarely heard and seen instruments, including the Baroque and Celtic harps, the double-body medieval recorder, the Theorbo and the Baroque guitar. During the performance, the musicians introduce and demonstrate the different techniques and sounds of their instruments. The audience gets an insight into the stories behind the music and the process of music making in Eclipse: choosing repertoire, making musical arrangements, decisions about mood and expression, musical improvisation and so on.

The musical performance includes flamenco influenced dance. This fusion creates an exciting visual experience, linking the world of ethnic and contemporary dance together with this very rhythmic and versatile repertoire. The gypsy atmosphere is enhanced by the performers colourful costumes, specially designed for Eclipse’s Spanish Spice. During the workshop the audience is invited to become part of the performance by adding simple rhythmic patterns, singing and performing basic dance steps. If the workshop is followed by Eclipse performance, it can result in one piece at the end of the programme in which the audience joins in.
